Health Care Social Media Europe (#hcsmeu) Mission Statement

In: #hcsmeu

15 oct 2009

keynoteThe first 10 weeks of Health Care Social Media Europe’s (#hcsmeu) existence has been characterised not only by our listening, learning, linking and frenetic debate, but also by our constant reference to three themes that we seem to return to regardless of the discussion in hand.

The #hcsmeu community has been consistent in its strident calls for engagement, transparency, and access in health care, and has frequently turned its unwavering gaze on the impediments to action it perceives. In recognition of this, as co-founders of a movement that we are proud to be a part of, Andrew Spong and myself are today proposing that the time has come to begin to transform #hcsmeu’s formative activities into normative ones.

To that end, we invite you, the reader, the existing members of the community, and everyone, everywhere who wishes to join us in the proactive pursuit of our aims, to consider the following draft of our mission statement and append your name to it.

We link below to a SlideShare version of the statement.

Please add your comments (Insert > Comment or Ctrl + M) to the Google docs version of the mission text here and add your name to the list of signatories here.

Please join us in our mission to drive forward social media adoption in health care in Europe.

Hi guys,

Just a few words to say that I added my name to the signatories.

Thanks a gain for this great initiative. So far, the discussions have been very intense, in terms of exchange and flow of ideas. Long live #hcsmeu!

KR,
Simon

Hi everybody,

nice initiative. Regulators and big pharma have to share for the benefits of patients and physicians. Pharma can’t stand out of social media anymore.

Dear Cilja and Andrew,

As time goes by, new insights or perspectives drop in.
I took a second look at the mission and would like to advise an addition to it, so it can strengthen, facilitate and broaden the effort into our mission to empower the patient, REshape healthcare into a process of engagement, increasing participation. Thus creating participatory healthcare. (check i.e : http://lucienengelen.posterous.com/healthcare-in-2014 )

So my advice would be to alter point 3 :

Our mission is to drive forward the adoption of social media across Europe in order to improve the quality, access, value and effectiveness of healthcare delivery to patients AS A TOOL TO INCREASE EMPOWERENT OF PATIENTS IN THEIR VOYAGE IN OF HAVING (OR PREVENTING) THEIR DISEASE .

furthermore, we’d try to officially launch a HCSMEU -”union” or some other structure, where HC-institutions, HC workers, government etc could join, having yearly conference(s), online resources, research, education etc.
Maybe Medicine 2.0 Europe 2010, 29-30 november at Maastricht NL would be a great platform may be, we could work on this.

Last little remark or advice: maybe one of the questions for our weekly #hcsmeu meeting could be whether the day and time fits most of us. I for one, have “some” kind of difficulty to fit this in my schedule, because of my meetings-schedule.

Please keep up the good work !
