This interesting presentation of potential twitter applications for medical students and doctors got me thinking: Could pharma use twitter to have sales reps reach physicians and other healthcare professionals more efficiently? How could this improve patient care?
The sales rep is missing from this presentation, but how would it look like with pharma as a participant?

With over 10% of internet users registered with Twitter (or similar service), it’s hard to deny the need to embrace this as a marketing requirement.
The model of engagement for reps should focus on news and product updates. The process can be somewhat automated with the use of feeds supplied by parent companies indicating changes in the market, announcements or indication and study information.
Reps can push this content or provide an avenue to interact directly with these outlets.
As medical students graduate, they are going to expect to use the tools they’ve grown accustomed to in their education and will not separate used by consumer brands and medical brands.
Twitter can allow real time support for healthcare professionals and patients. Answering or directing people to answers simply and efficiently.
