After having looked at pharma’s use of twitter, I decided to also get a feel for how pharma is engaging with facebook so far. Three main uses emerge: 1. connecting employees, 2. attracting talent and 3. promoting disease awareness or treatment adherence
1. Connecting current and ex- employees definately has the most activity. Numerous official and [...]

ITS NOT THE NHS!!!

In: government

17 fév 2009

Poor me, I got so excited this morning when I read about the NHS engaging with social media. It is actually NOT the NHS but an action group run by two NHS doctors as a political action group for patients (and staff) against the NHS administration.  See their other action group site www.remedyuk.org. Thank you [...]

Very exciting initiative by the NHS, with their recently released beta version on nhsunlocked, ratings and advice from patients.
The site offers hospital center ratings and groups by disease area. That by itself is not so innovative, you might correctly remark. What got me excited is the collaborative spirit in which the site was set up.

Much discussion on  leading patient blogs around twitter lately.
According to Pew Internet’s new report on twitter and status updating, 11% of Americans currently use twitter with e-patient’s being even more likely to use it (exact number to be discussed in Susannah’s upcoming report). So, if patients are on twitter, this must be a channel of [...]

This interesting presentation of potential twitter applications for medical students and doctors got me thinking: Could pharma use twitter to have sales reps reach physicians and other healthcare professionals more efficiently? How could this improve patient care?
The sales rep is missing from this presentation, but how would it look like with pharma as a participant?

Check out this great initiative, patientassistance.com, which provides a sort of one-stop shop for uninsured patients to find out and enlist in pharmaceutically sponsored patient assistance programs.
This is a wonderful example of how non-profit, patient communities and pharma can collaborate to improve access to treatments. If you are working for a pharma company, please check [...]

The last edition of the Carnival of MS bloggers run by Lisa Emrich, MS blogger and extremely sharp analyst of health policy, focused on the fascintating topic of  the dangers patients face in internet forums.
I have to say, I was flustered to learn about the multitude of issues patients looking for online support have to [...]

I came across this very interesting article my Manny Hernandez from tudiabetes, an amazing online comunity for patients with diabetes, but more on that in another article later.
Manny is raising the important debate on labeling patients as consumers (Call me patient, not consumer), especially in the light of web 2.0 and social media. He personally [...]

I decided to read through the annual reports of the top 10 pharma companies to see how much of a clearly stated strategic priority patient-focus was and how it is defined.
Unsurprisingly, every pharma company, I researched, states that one of their goals is to better meet patient needs. Most companies however do not disclose how [...]
